Shadows and Light
There are lots of shadows and lots of light displayed on early summer mornings. Back on Market Street, this series of escapes form the backside of an Exchange Street building. It's always good to have an 'escape plan', at least that's what well-meaning friends have told me. I'm not a guy that really likes to plan ahead, although at work it's a must and through the aging process I''ve learned it can often be the road that leads to contentment and happiness, at least for awhile. So, I'm working on it. Case in point, after a couple of traveling snafus, Elenka now has convinced me that packing some spare clothes in my carry-on bag when flying is a very good idea. When I listen to her, about most things, I tend to do pretty well.

une superbe photo, la lumiere est tres belle, cela rend bien avec le mur et les escaliers
ReplyDeleteI love the light. Not big on escape plans either. I prefer to live each day as it comes. :)
ReplyDeleteCool photo. Cool text. Cool couple.
ReplyDeleteSeems that one gender is always being wiser than the other. Luckily, it goes back and forth. Or does it? :) Oh well, we always have football.
ReplyDeleteNice shot--lines and texture.
What a fantastic effect- I love the deep orange brown colours too.

A very wise woman your Elenka. I love all the lines and patterns in this photo.
ReplyDeleteA smart man always listens to his wife. I guess that's assuming he has a smart wife!
ReplyDeleteExcellent range of elements in this picture Birdman, like it a lot. As for good advice....we women are full of it haha!!
ReplyDeleteSo many interesting things to look at in this picture and you even caught some reflections of the sky. Your wife is very wise!
ReplyDeleteTold ya so.......
ReplyDeleteNow if I could just convince Birdman Jr. to listen to me about everything.......(sigh)
Good advice. I lived in the same outfit for almost 4 days in Paris due to poor prior planning. Now I NEVER check my bag.
ReplyDeleteLove the lines and shadows. great composition Bird.

Photo of the day.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love the warmth and balance of this photo. It reminds me of the Hitchcock movie, "Rear Window."
ReplyDeleteAnd I invariably forget.
ReplyDeleteThis photo is the epitome of American. Well... one of them...
This remind my of that old game of ladders and something...
ReplyDeleteA great building and some good advice!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe it's taken you so many years to learn that your wife is always right! Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteI really like the light in this shot, all the various lines and angles and the various textures, as well as the shadows. Good work!
We all tend to need someone else s opinion or advice..

This is comment number 22. What more is there to say? Oh yes! Wish I'd listened to my ex wife more.
ReplyDeleteGreat shadows in this photo, and usually the better half knows best.
ReplyDeleteBirdman -- lots of angles, lots of curves, lots of textures, lots of muted colors -- all wonderful -- barbara
ReplyDeletei love that photo!
ReplyDeleteI really like this with the shapes, and light and lines!
ReplyDeleteI like this photo, Birdman. It is the kind of scene I see frequently from a car window, but so far I have not stopped to memorialize it for the blog. Planning? I began a career as a planning type, but the more experience I gained, the more I have become persuaded that there is so much randomness and chance that the most important thing is to be flexible and good at reacting.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo because of the vertical and horizontal lines. That's not the only reason but they are so striking.
ReplyDeleteClassic shot!
ReplyDeleteCute post ---and it's good that you are listening to your wife... My husband soon learned that ----and he'll say sometimes that "IF Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy!" ha ha

I grew up in an apartment building in Queens with exterior fire escapes. Always thought it was a very good idea and added kind of a cool look to the building. It was wonderful to sit out there on summer evenings but my mother said that was low class and always chased me back inside.
ReplyDeleteFirst, this is a great shot! Now, isn't life the search for the elusive balance of yin and yang...!? To go with the flow or to plan ahead... that can be tricky! I try to plan ahead to be able to go with the flow, LOL!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful light and great shadows in this wonderful composition!
ReplyDeleteooww, how cute..
ReplyDeletei hope one day my boyfriend will say the same.. :) but right now, when he was packing for his trip back home and i was giving him unasked advice, he only said; now you do sound like my mother!
Very, very cool photo with the bricks and windows and fire escape ladders! Based on the number of comments, I'm the last person on earth to comment on your posting!
