Theme Day: Postcard-worthy
Today, August 1, 2011, is theme day across the CDPB(city daily photo blog) community. This is the Monhegan Island Lighthouse. This image is both postcard worthy and ready! The island is located 12 nautical miles off the mainland. And yes, you CAN get there from here. I think we've visited it four times, twice for day trips and twice for extended stays. Elenka and J- bring sketchbooks and paints, while I rely on my trusty Nikons. Want to get away from the zaniness and seemingly non-stop fever of that outside world for a day or a week? This would be a pretty good choice.

magnifique cette maison avec son phare. un bon choix pour une carte postale
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty lighthouse!
ReplyDeleteI think this would make a great postcard. It looks so typically "Maine" to me. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd after seeing this picture Birdman I'd be there in a flash with my Pentax and Wilbur Smith book for a relaxing day or two. So you see postcard job done!!
ReplyDeletewhat a gorgeous lighthouse! how old is it? love the white building/red roof attached...beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteThis is certainly and iconic scene for Maine. Absolutely perfect I'd say.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Birdman. I have never been there, but relatives used to stay on Monhegan for a week in the summer. If I were there, I would need to borrow a kid to read Blueberries for Sal to.
ReplyDeleteAll of the elements in the photo: boat and lighthouse especially, make this postcard worthy and would be a terrific painting as well.
ReplyDeleteperfect, perfect, perfect choice for the theme, birdman!
ReplyDeleteIt is worth to be a postcard for sure.

Absolutely gorgeous, Bird! I think that it looks like the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday craziness. One would hope that the electronics and connectivity would not be possible there either.
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
Totally postcard worthy ... haven't been there. Need to put it on the list. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and peaceful place. I like it.
ReplyDeleteNow you done ruined it. The photo of such quality, no sense going to visit. I suppose I would get to smell that salt air tho. Might be worth the trip anyhow. How trips go I would get to see it during a foggy, rainy day.
ReplyDeleteIt is easy to be convinced by this great picture of the quiet and the beauty of this place.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a postcard about Maine to me. Go figure! Superb, Birdman.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving today's theme day - So many great photos that are definitely "postcard worthy!" ... bummed that somehow I totally forgot today was the first! Time is moving way to quickly. :)
ReplyDeleteSuperb.
ReplyDeleteIt's ready? My address is .... Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI'll be right over. And then I can send the postcard home.
ReplyDeleteI can see why you'd like this place, not only for its generic beauty but because every lighthouse needs birds...so what better than a visit from the Birdman?
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does look like a nice spot to get away from the roar of the greasepaint and the smell of the crowd!
A timeless shot!

ReplyDeleteHi There, WOW---do I love lighthouses... We are planning a New England trip in Sept. to see the colors, some covered bridges and some lighthouses.... Can't wait!!!!
ReplyDeleteBetsy
New England islands have a rough peacefulness that is hard to match. Maybe the Orkneys off Scotland. Hard life, slow pace, quiet. Room to think.
ReplyDeleteThis IS very postcard-worthy.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a perfect choice. That bright red roof is stunning. Someone must take very good care of it :D
ReplyDeleteLooks a scenery from a romantic movie, this place is adorable and your picture is great, I like a lot the boat detail.
