Excuse Me

Excuse me. I have to use... the men's room? the bathroom? the basement? the john? the water closet? the toilet? the restroom? the loo? the washroom? the lavatory? the outhouse? Got some free time on your hands this weekend? Check out the etymology of these words. You'll be amazed and yes, intrigued by what you find searching out these word origins. As for this 'mensroom', I've never set foot in a salon, ever. A saloon yes, a salon, not so much. First of all, to 'work' on ones feet is just plain weird, if you ask me. Fingernails? Don't go there, too embarrassing. Hair? I haven't set foot in a barbershop in 30 plus years, and you think I might survive a salon? I'll pamper myself for the holidays, but there are many less intrusive ways to go about it. Now, let's see the word loo has a very interesting derivative. Want to guess? Think about the number 100 and you're on the right track. Doing this might give you some 'relief'.

  1. Lest people think he sports a Willie Nelson 'do' or something, be assured that the reason he hasn't been in a barber shop in 30 years is because his lovely wife cuts his hair.
How it comes out depends on how he was behaving that month.
He's been a good boy, so he looks great. IMHO ;-)

  2. Thank you, Elenka. I was trying to picture 30 years-worth of hair growth.

  7. I have a feeling this title is to protect the guilty. In one area of Wisconsin I once came upon a small bar called "The Office."

I was told that many men, stopping for a beer (or two or more) would call their spouses and explain they were at "The Office." In your case, they were in the "Mensroom." Yes?

You are right. The prices of greeting cards is totally out-of-hand. In south Florida we lived close of a store that sold cards for $1.00...and many of the cards were quite well done.

  9. My hubby has never been to a salon either ---and I'm sure he'll never go there --unless he is 99 (like his Dad) and can no longer cut his toenails. Dad gets his fingernails and toenails cut at a nail place now... SO???? Wait til you are 99!!!!!!

I also cut my hubby's hair---but I won't let him touch mine!!!!! ha ha ha

P.S. You forgot one important word for a bathroom: "I gotta go to the POTTY"..... ha

  10. This place doesn't look threatening or boring. Might be fun to go in and treat yourself to one of their services.

  14. We have something similar around here, a chain called Hair Saloon For Men. I got tired of paying $20 plus tip for the tiny amount of time it takes to cut my modest patch. Now my wife does mine, too.

  17. There's a popular men's "salon" in downtown Sarasota called....The Men's Room! Imagine that. From what I understand, it's like a man-cave with big screen TVs, cigars etc....and guys happen to get their hair cut there.
