Tree Time

It's always a special time when the tree goes up. The decorations bring so many memories flooding back. Our tree is festive this year with so many objects and colors from beyond. There are 50's era elaborate glass balls from Elenka's family tree, her mother's designed snowflakes and ice skates, my grandmother's mouse she wore on her coat, birds and birdhouses, a stack of books, mice in red dresses, cut glass ornaments with etched designs, dressed teddy bears sitting plump, angels caught in mid-flight, wooden soldiers marching in time, a swinging reindeer, a moose or two, after all it's Maine, a plastic jolly snowman once filled with candy, Santa's plump face, green ceramic trees, a small stuffed Garfield or two, magical lanterns, decorated packages, stuffed, festive ponies, a couple of small framed pictures of a kid I know well, dangling sweethearts, a snow-covere sled ready for a run and even a toy drum of yarn. White lights and seemingly countless red balls set the theme on a green field. And there you have it, the STAR of a family room yesterday that was loaded with family and good friends. A steady light snow into the evening made for a wonderful canvas to paint the day. It was the perfect tree for a perfect day. Noel!

  4. It sounds as if you had a near-perfect Christmas day, to go along with that beautiful tree. We always enjoy putting our 'special' ornaments on our tree each year. The memories are as beautiful as the ornaments themselves.

I hope you had a Merry Christmas and will have a Happy and Healthy New Year.

  11. A grand tree - I love seeing (and reading about) the ornaments on others' trees. We have a similar mix of special mementos from many years past.

  13. Oh dear me!
HOW could I not include Elenka's 6 inch, ACTUAL, french fry ornament (compliments of Dimillo's Floating Restaurant) that's been 'hanging' from the tree these last 15 years or so. And it has been mice-free too. That's simply amazing in this house. Penance? Two Hail Marys and one Our Father. hahahaha

  15. I couldn't help but wonder what that tree looks like now! If your celebration was anything like ours used to be, it would look like it was run over by a train. :-)

Re your question: No, not a mural. Actually it was metal cutouts on a shelf against that yellow/orange background. I thought it was rather cool so took a photo and it came out all right I think...

  20. Birdman, I was kinda laughing when I saw the title of your post because it was Treetime alright, but I ended up with an artificial Christmas tree this year for the first time from a company actually 'called' www.treetime.com. Cool site. We, too, hang all of our family ornaments dating back nearly 100 years from family in Poland. A lot of glass and crystal ornaments mixed with reds and whites. The pre lit Christmas tree from Treetime was actually a welcome addition considering we simply don't have the patience for a real tree anymore. I really love what you did with yours also, its very elegant.
