The other morning I was reading some blogs and a discussion came up about what to eat while one works. What does your environment look like? Some work with 'white noise', music, food and snacks; others accomplish the most in silence. If it's in the AM, give me a good cup of joe, probably multiple cups. Around the computer, I don't do food, but place some peanut M&Ms, Twizzlers or Mikes and Ikes around during the day, and I'm in some significant trouble. Music, I like. I'll listen to anything, while I'm on a project, usually low and 'off in the distance'. However, if I'm up against any kind of solid deadline and the pressure is on, only one ingredient works... silence. It's golden for sure!

Office Curtains

ReplyDeleteMusic? I love music, but if I am deeply engrossed in spreadsheets or writing, I turn it to classical or jazz and down very low. My office is half art studio and half work, and the art often distracts me. The French girl described my large space as "le cavern d'Ali Baba."

Nearly always coffee or tea, at the moment because it's so very hot here icy cold water, always music in the background and, and ....is that ice on your window Birdman, oh that's so not fair...I want ice on my window!!

ReplyDeleteIt be best, me thinks, if folks would work when working and eat when eating and sleep when sleeping and ... well, you get the idea. Although I am never far from a cuppa coffee!

ReplyDeleteWe usually have a local radio station on for background music and if that gets boring I pop on my iPod. For food it's usually a yogurt in the morning and a piece of fruit in the afternoon.

ReplyDeleteliters and liters of tea. sometimes my lunch. luckily thats possible in the lab where i am in now, as most us-based labs seem to only have a desk inside the laboratory, and there ofcourse its strictly forbidden to eat or drink (so imagine working there the entire day on a paper or something... the first lab i worked in here in the us we all were sometimes standing (!!) outside the entrance of the lab, drinking or eating. i hated that...)
