Fence Fourth

The fence in front of Henry Longfellow's house says it all. Happy Birthday to us! Congress Street, the main artery through the city, has flags hanging from most light poles and tonight at 9PM there will be the annual 'light show' on the Eastern Prom for those who love to wade through large crowds at the top of the Hill and enjoy experiencing a little traffic on your way home. There were between 50,000-60,000 up for it last year. This year, it's sure to be a bit louder in our state too. Why? The sale of fireworks, as of January 1, 2012, is legal in the state. Fun no longer has to be 'illegally imported' from neighboring state New Hampshire and beyond. So, emergency rooms at local hospitals, be on your toes.
Help! My finger was here a minute ago!
KABOOM!

  1. Love the photo and these "fence flags" too. Never quite understood why adults thought it was OK to give explosives and matches to little boys on special occasions, though. Hmm.

  2. This picture really gets me in a patriotic mood! The only fireworks we will be doing at home are probably a few sparklers for the kids. Even those scare me a little bit!

  3. I love those kinds of flags. THey're old-fashioned in a nice way.
I was surprised that the place where I watched fireworks here was not very crowded. Last year we went to a more downtown spot and had to fight the crowds. This year we went to a park and there was hardly anyone. And to be honest, I thought the park show was more spectacular! :)

  4. Happy 4th to you. In Florida we have a law which says you can buy just about any kind of fireworks if you sign a paper that it will be used only for agricultural purposes. :-) So all kinds of ninnies buy fireworks and threaten the lives of the rest of us. At our old house, I'd sit up and worry 'cause bottle rockets were raining down on our roof from several different sources. Great fun! Ugh!

  6. You're living near Henry Longfelow's house?!! He's one of my favorite poets! There's a small statue of him in Menton, a city near here, and noone around knows who is this guy!

PS: yes, it's a boat behind the flag, on my today's pic. Happy 07/04 !

  8. Enjoy your fireworks. They are illegal in Tulsa but legal elsewhere in the State. Tongight it'll sound like WWII in the 'hood.

  19. It's surprising how few - if any - fireworks accidents there are here in Ontario, that's for sure!
