Time is such a killer!
She was stacked! The used bookstore that is. While traveling through Salem this past week, I caught sight of one of my favorite places to hang out, a used bookstore. Like the alcoholic, that gets stuck working at a bottle redemption store, just the whiff of 'the stuff' sends me reeling. I wanted in, but alas time and pressing commitments said I better pass. I'll stop another day. I do have regrets though. There were probably several books hidden in there with timely tips on how to ride out a mega-storm like the one heading our way. As for right now, I'm not going to ruin a beautiful fall weekend scurrying around loading up on water, batteries, non-perishable food stuff and the like. No TV, no meteorologists to tell me which way the wind's blowing. I'll worry about that Monday.
Right now, I just can't seem to stop humming that Springsteen song "4th of July, Asbury Park(Sandy)". Is this a sign?
Looks a little scary in there! Beware of falling books! :)
ReplyDeleteOh oh. Looks like the law of gravity is about to be enforced. Sounds like the worst of the storm will be south of you but watch out Philly. It's going to be a good week to live in the Midwest.
ReplyDeleteDifficile de trouver le titre voulu au milieu de telles pyramides inversées de livres, lol !
ReplyDeleteMais le plaisir de chercher...

well, at least stock up on flashlight and batteries so you can read a book while you wait out the storm. :)
ReplyDeleteDon't let me loose in there... Springsteen or no Springsteen.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably a good thing you had to pass up this book store. If you accidentally bumped into that stack of books it might have come tumbling down on top of you.
ReplyDeleteYou (or anyone) could get buried in there and never get out!
ReplyDeleteI hope that Frankenstorm doesn't get all the way to Maine...from what I'm hearing it will come ashore in New Jersey or New York. Sandy brushed by us and left us a little wind but that's about all. Thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteWe have a great used bookstore but it's on the other side of town so I don't get there too often. I end up buying too many at Barnes & Noble.
Can empathise!
ReplyDeleteSpringsteen always looks like he is having a great time.
ReplyDeleteThat storm does sound horrendous, but you know how weather folks can get over excited about such events. Lets hope they are wrong in their predictions of doom and gloom. Maybe you will make time to stop back at that bookstore - it sure looks like you could find some rich reads in it. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteArtful stacking of books!
ReplyDeleteHope that storm brings you only cloudy skies and light showers. The weather people love to cry "Wolf." Yes, used bookstores do have that magnetic draw, don't they. Will there be used digital downloads in the future?
ReplyDeleteIf you want a book, you have to take a risk! Especially if it's at the bottom of a pile.
ReplyDeleteSad case.
ReplyDeleteLove those stacks! I'm always on the lookout for out-of-print favorites and can never resist the urge to look.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with Frankenstorm, Bird.
ReplyDeleteYou are stronger than me. I'd of had to stop. However, I rode through one minor hurricane while I lived in Houston back in the 80's. I decided I'd go to Nebraska for the next one.
ReplyDeleteKindle and Nook cannot compete with this!!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, I have found some pretty perfect books in used bookstores...Do you know Yes Books on Congress? Thx for posting Bruce...I ADORE him!! Good luck with the storm, however it turns out.
