Yard Sale

Well, we spent the weekend getting ready for a yard sale next Saturday and Sunday. We spent a few hours Saturday emptying the contents of our garage attic of lots of stuff  that we thought we'd need again, but we were wrong. Yesterday, we tackled the the attic above the main house. We worked for about three hours up there, and as Elenka said hardly made a dent. To be honest, it looks the same as when we started. How can that be? If you're looking for a couple of comfy living room chairs, a weight bench with weights, an exercise bike, a kid's desk, a bike for a teen, a small crib, a set of dishes, a couple of sets of golf clubs, a rocking chair, kids' toys, a solid back door, a set of tires, two suitcases, and much more, stop by from 8-3 next weekend. You'll lug away something and make me a happy man. By the way, none of the left over crap comes back in the house this time. Scout's honor. Our last sale was three years ago, and for some God only knows reason, we brought a lot of the 'leftovers' back into the house. Theory? Next time we'd make a 'killing' selling the stuff. Of course, we were wrong again. It only collected dust and made it darn hard to maneuver around that area.

*ps Don't tell anyone, but anything not sold goes to the end of the driveway Sunday with a sign that'll read, FREE!

*ps2 No, the boat's not mine but is for sale down the road a piece.

  1. Many years ago I had a garage sale and swore I'd never do it again; too much work for too little profit. Now Goodwill often gets a "windfall" from us and it can be deducted as a charitable gift on our income taxes. Benefits all parties!

Hope you have a successful sale and take my advice, call Goodwill!

  3. Oh how I need to do the exact same thing. I just hate the thought of all the work that goes into organizing all that stuff so I can put it out on the driveway. I wish you the best of luck with your sale. Some people are really go at it.

  4. Good luck, guys! I have no patience for yard sales - either having them or going to them! You remember when we were moving, right? End of the driveway - "Free to a Good Home". This summer I cleaned out clothes/shoes that I hadn't worn in a few years . . . gone to Goodwill. Now we're tackling your brother's closet - no new clothes until old clothes are GONE!!

  5. I love getting rid of stuff. I just need to do it more often. Is there any effort more wasted than putting stuff in the attic. Put it on the curb for the trash guys and pretend it is in the attic. It does the same amount of good.

  6. It is amazing what people will buy at garage sales. I had intentions of having a huge one this year, but with only a month to go before heading south again, I have now decided to put it off until next summer. Good luck with yours!

  8. Had friends who just gave each other $40 whenever one of them considered a garage sale. To get rid of stuff just find your local Habitat Re-Store. They are delighted to have attic and garage finds. BTW, I've noticed that all boats are for sale, a few just are not displaying their signs.
