Market in Rain

The weather around these parts is changing a bit these days. Last night it poured off and on, and now there are gentle showers falling. Our garden says, "Yeah! Finally!" The Portland Farmers' Market is open at Monument Square on Mondays and Wednesdays 7 AM to 2 PM. This summer's bountiful harvest is on parade here in the sun or rain. As you can see, it's situated right across from the famous Time and Temperature Building. This summer, if you haven't got a garden to tend yourself, this is a good place to stop by and visit. Got a busy Monday planned. Places to go! People to see!

  1. Great spot for a farmers' market with those nice brick pavers and beautiful old buildings. I'm always amazed that customers show up to open air markets in the rain.

  2. Ya, besides the rain, the puddles on bricks and the white tents intrigued me on this one.

  5. I've always thought that plants and rain belong together, if you know what I mean. The buildings behind them look so beautiful too.

  7. KM- Believe it or not the building(477 Congress Street when constructed in 1924 was called the Chapman Building. It was 12 stories.) has a very LARGE flashing sign at the top that can be seen from the highway 295 and many other areas in the city. It flashes the Time and Temp. The building has a real name that most of us do not know. Most city 'natives' just called it the Time and Temperature Building and the name(for some reason) stuck. As you can see, even the owners have incorporated it into the building name now. If you travel to Portland, you can't miss it.

  9. They are quite brave staying there under the rain, or simply they have a good tent.
The colors, the reds in particular, are gorgeous.

  10. Like the shot and the detail of the buildings. Even the truck provides a pleasing backdrop to the flowers and vegatables. We get enough rain in Mobile (wettest city in the USA) that rain does not stop much of anything!

  14. Are you saying your weather is changing as into "fall"? We are so far away from that I can't even imagine, the heat is sucking us dry! I would definitely be out there in the rain, looks wonderful!
