Rusted Tractor

"... and whatever you do STAY off that tractor. You'll hurt yourself for sure! By the way, there are snakes in that field."

Soon after leaving Belfast, we pulled off near a grassy field, overlooking the ocean. There were 4-5 pieces of rusting farm equipment strewn about. This view sent me back to Scotty's backyard on Lawn Avenue and afternoons spent with his many Tonka trucks. I think I might have been happy driving a big rig cross country, sort of that modern day cowboy in a steel rig. But those are dreams for another day.

  1. And here I thought St. Patrick did away with all those snakes.

  3. This tractor, I think, has earned its long retirement. I, too, thought it might be a satisfying gig to drive big rigs across the country.

  5. A memory jerker. As a youngster I worked on several farms for short periods and I can remember driving tractors much like this with steel seats, etc. Great fun.

Ah...re your comment on Ocala DP: no snake juice in a jar. I get that at the local liquor store!

  6. In Oklahoma we would call that a "front loader" because of the big scoop on the front. Old machinery like this has a fascination about it. Maybe my Tonka roots are showing.

  7. The rust is fitting. It sits on a beast of burden that is becoming part of the land. But the tractor sits proud on the field, its final resting place after a lifetime of productivity...

  8. Re your comment on IDP about Stirling Castle - Stirling is many miles from Inverness. Try the Scottish Tourist Board.
