Boys' Toys

At Daytona when we were there, they were having some sort of jeep rally. Some beautiful and very expensive 'rides' traveled past us that afternoon. Now, here's a peculiar activity we spied. Down the beach, groups of sometimes 7-8 would assemble and park with wheels up on top of the next jeep. What is this all about? I guess it's just another case of boys being boys, but wait! There were gals doing it too. Later, when we headed back to Oviedo, next to the Speedway they were assembling to 'talk shop' and show-off where and how they had spent loads of buckeroos. Well, 'rides' and money have always gone well together.
My favorite car was my yellow and black Camaro.
First car.
Good memories...
But I never parked like this?
Best car for you?

  1. Wasn't the "best", but it was the first--a 1960 Studebaker with over 300,000 miles on the odometer, it's second engine and no floor on the passenger side. Used to carry a case of oil in the back. Probably burned through two quarts of oil for every tank of gas. :-)

  2. When did you catch that snap of me parking Birdman :) I think my very first car which was a morris minor will always be the most special because it was the first!

  7. Crazy parking! Are you sure this photo wasn't taken in a downtown Toronto parking lot? Oh, of course not. I see the palm trees now.

  10. My first car was a 1962 Ford Falcon. That car ran better than it looked, and I put about 120,000 miles on it. Still running great when I gave it to a friend. Jeep people are a world unto themselves. One of these days they might learn how to park. Great shot.

  11. 1967 Springtime Yellow Mustang! My father picked it out as a surprise and purchased it for me my senior year of college. He paid for the insurance until I graduated but I had to make the payments (I had two jobs that year in addition to my courses) but the payments were only $64 a month! I think the total price of that car was around $2,500. I loved it and would still have it today if my husband had not wrecked it because he didn't know how to drive a car with a clutch!

  12. Never seen anything like this stunt before! I grew up in Jacksonville Beach and my Dad used to threaten our lives if we drove his car on the beach, but we did it anyway.

  13. Nope. I don't get it.

In high school I drove my mother's 1956 Ford. In college I needed cheap wheels so I got America's ugliest car, a 1961 Plymouth Valiant.

  14. A nice quiet road trip is my idea of a good use of a car.

  15. Strikes me as a version of, "Hey, mom, look at me!"

My first one was a Triumph TR 4, pretty worn when I got it. It had the most unreliable electrical system ever made but OMG was it fun.

  16. 1962 Beetle with the fold back vinyl sunroof. I could load my drums in it with no problem. Bass drum went in the back seat through the top. Floor tom went next to it then the cymbals were on the floor of the back seat. Next to me would be the tom drum that mounted to the bass and in the front floor board sat the snare. The stands, throne, sticks, mallets etc. went in the front trunk.

Just me and my drums...no dates on gig night ;(
NO heat in the winter but whose to complain, it never let me down...

  18. Woah! Those people sure do some crazy parking tricks! I find it awesome, though I also wonder how they do that. Haha! And a black Camaro for a first car? That's nice! I hope to hear more about cars from you. Thanks for sharing! Take care!
