Shadows and Light

There are lots of shadows and lots of light displayed on early summer mornings. Back on Market Street, this series of escapes form the backside of an Exchange Street building. It's always good to have an 'escape plan', at least that's what well-meaning friends have told me. I'm not a guy that really likes to plan ahead, although at work it's a must and through the aging process I''ve learned it can often be the road that leads to contentment and happiness, at least for awhile. So, I'm working on it. Case in point, after a couple of traveling snafus, Elenka now has convinced me that packing some spare clothes in my carry-on bag when flying is a very good idea. When I listen to her, about most things, I tend to do pretty well.

  5. Seems that one gender is always being wiser than the other. Luckily, it goes back and forth. Or does it? :) Oh well, we always have football.

    Nice shot--lines and texture.

  24. I like this photo, Birdman. It is the kind of scene I see frequently from a car window, but so far I have not stopped to memorialize it for the blog. Planning? I began a career as a planning type, but the more experience I gained, the more I have become persuaded that there is so much randomness and chance that the most important thing is to be flexible and good at reacting.

  25. Love the photo because of the vertical and horizontal lines. That's not the only reason but they are so striking.

  27. I grew up in an apartment building in Queens with exterior fire escapes. Always thought it was a very good idea and added kind of a cool look to the building. It was wonderful to sit out there on summer evenings but my mother said that was low class and always chased me back inside.

  28. First, this is a great shot! Now, isn't life the search for the elusive balance of yin and yang...!? To go with the flow or to plan ahead... that can be tricky! I try to plan ahead to be able to go with the flow, LOL!
