Thunderstorms

Mr. Weatherman says we're in for a stretch of days with threats of thunderstorms. That suits me fine. Staring out my bedroom windows on Stevens Avenue and Coyle Street and watching ominous clouds gather and roll, was always something I loved to do. It was exciting! These days, the summer porch with water pouring off the metal roof is a soothing spot to watch an afternoon's weather alter. After these storms, the day is usually recast in a way. It's amended. That's a good thing. I've always thought of change, in the weather and in life, as a positive thing; it's renewing; it's thirst-quenching. Work in the coming months will be frothed with changes. Some worry and are scared a bit. For me, I'll treat the upcoming days like casting off on a new adventure. One that will hopefully test, delight and make me stronger. Remember: the glass is half full!

  2. A beautiful shot...a great attitude. What would life be without the adventures?

  3. I'd rather it rain during the week. I like to get my golf in on the weekends. :)
But a little rain is always welcome in summer. I especially like it when it includes some thunder and lightning too. Midwest thunderstorms were part of my childhood.

  4. I remember people in R&W at NCR where I began my working career always prayed for rain during the week and sunshine on the weekend so they could play golf.

  5. beautiful photo. growing up in southern ca, we don't really get thunderstorms so i love to listen to them now from the front porch. what a great attitude you have about the possible upcoming changes. we've sort of been on pins and needles here with the economy, it really effects my husband's business but i try to keep the glass half full too!

  6. Love this post, feel the same. Nothing like being on a porch in the rain. And agree about changes . . .wonder what you'll be up to . . .

  7. We've suddenly been taken over by summer storms here, too. But it's brought down the temperature and I'm loving it. Love your puddle shot. Hope you have a relaxing weekend! :D

  8. Bird, I always figured you as a "glass half full" kind of guy. The rains have made for great reflections in the brick-paved street and the changes ahead will make for inner reflections and adjustments.

  9. This is just a wonderful photo with the cobblestones and puddles. I love to watch the rain when it comes down hard, I find a window with no screen that provides a good view, a washing is a good term. My glass is always half full.

  11. We don't see this very often in the desert southwest so when it does happen we enjoy every minute of it.

  12. I agree Birdman, there's nothing nicer than a storm to clear things up and refresh the great outdoors as well as the mind!! Plus there's the bonus of the 'smell', that fantastic after the rain smell. Your storm gave you the opportunity to take these fabulous reflections, love it!!

  13. I understand about thunderstorms. Whether in Connecticut or Florida, they light up the skies, water the plants and then clear the air. Your cobblestone walkway photo is nice. Good luck in the upcoming work turmoil. Attitude is important, and you are far better off making the decision to be positive. No one likes a moaner.

  15. You afternoons sound very similar to ours here in Ocala during the summer. One can almost always count on a thunderstorm later in the day - and sometimes they are fierce, and yes, they do cool things down. Yesterday we were in the low 90s, got a nice storm, and by 7 pm it was 72 degrees!

BTW - Beef O'Brady's is a chain, and I'm not yanking yours!

  16. Well spoted reflections, Birdman! Very cool shot. I hope it rains here too, it's suffocating but no sunshine... I hate it like this.

  17. WE here in drought-stricken Texas are very envious of your thunderstorms. I actually saw about 13 drops of rain yesterday!

  18. I like a soft rain but the half empty glass makes me think of flooding basements etc in a thunderstorm!

  19. I may sound crazy, but we desperately need some bad weather... You know: rain, wind, thunderstorms, anything like that would be fine!

  20. We've had rain and cold between mid-July and mid-August so now I'm happy that it's sunny (though way too humid). I do know what you mean though, a good thunderstorm is like a new beginning... And I really like this shot, too.

  23. Birdman -- I am a half-filled-glass kinda person -- it has always gotten me through both positive and difficult situations. Like your philosophy as you tied it in with life changing and a good rainstorm -- barbara

  26. That's a very poetic way to describe weather bending the path of a day. Your whole text reminds me why the Hindus have three principal gods, a creator, a destroyer and a preserver.
