Good dog! No, I'm not going to complain. No, I'm not going to whine. Oh well, maybe a little. I was just thinking this morning. NONE. Not one of my friends, and there were many as most of you know, had a dog growing up. Not Teddy! Not Leo! Not Eddie! Not Buddy! Not Skipper! Not Billy! You know, not a family pet but a dog that got to follow us everywhere. For some strange reason, we were all canine-free. What was that all about? In my bit of whining(ok, complaining), I had never really made that connection. I feel a bit better now. You see(read parents, Elenka, Donna etc.), it wasn't ME! I think I would have made a good daddy... for a puppy. Oh well, these days when I'm feelin' a bit blue, I'll just travel to Westbrook and visit my pal Annie. There, all better now.
ps. No, this is not Annie in the photo. She's prettier than this!
pss. Stay, girl!
OK, Birdman, go on...get a dog. But YOU take care of it. I will send you postcards from my travels while you are home babysitting the dog, cause I know you would have a hard time boarding it. YOU pick up the poop and scrub the rugs. YOU keep it from eating the cat's dry food. YOU pay the psychiatrist the cat's will need after bringing in a mutt.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead, I dare ya! (Gulp....I may be eating my words!)
(If we could only know ahead of time that any puppy you bring in would turn out like Annie, well, I MIGHT cuddle with it now and then.)
JOKE, Birdman, joke.
Life is complicated some days.
ReplyDeleteAnnie is available any day, any time!! And, yes, I agree!! She IS much cuter than the dog in the picture!!
ReplyDeletethe dog in the picture isn't exactly 'chopped liver'.
ReplyDeletepersonnellement j'avoue que je préfère les chats, comme je vis en studio, mon ancien chat passait sa vie dehors.
ReplyDeleteAmazing. I can't imagine growing up (either then or now!) without a dog!
ReplyDeleteI think you've missed your moment Birdman, when the kids are young THAT'S the time for the puppy, now it's time to do what and when you please!!I'm with Elenka on this one, it would be too hard to put them into kennels when you travel, that little face looking at you as you leave them behind....no way!!
ReplyDeleteoh, i'd have just withered away without my family dog (and farm cats!)
ReplyDeleteMy dogs have been my best friends. When my son was diagnosed with multiple allergies, I told the good doctor that "I'd get rid of this kid before I get rid of my dog." He never brought up the subject again. Son Karl is still alive and still bringing animals home for us to foster. Usually they become permanent residents, too.
ReplyDeleteLove this post, Bird! We are at the moment without a pet. I travel and would have difficulties in boarding a dog. Now, when we had a cat, I had a pet sitter. He would not have been happy (bwahahaha) to have been boarded.
ReplyDeleteListen to Elenka and go give Annie some lovin'
Bises,

I love dogs, grew up with them all the time but, I don't have one right now. I do however, babysit dogs for other people and it seems to satisfy my craving.
ReplyDeleteOur grandchildren just got a puppy and it is the CUTEST thing and they are in HEAVEN and I am jealous and looking at dog pics online even though I know, like Elenka does, what that would mean. Bigga mess. Tied down. But a puppy - who can not love a puppy?
ReplyDeleteBirdman -- Ahh get a dog -- they love you unconditionally. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteI think you should listen to Elenka.
ReplyDeleteLike Sharon, I babysit dogs from time to time. I DO love having them around as they make splendid friends, but Mr. EG Wow thinks the way Elenka does. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely pooch
ReplyDeleteThey are both lucky to have one another.
ReplyDeleteI went for my wine group yesterday and ended up fetching my camera to take her young and frisky lab's photo......again! Dogs/cats are our hearts. I love this shot Bird.

Babysitting someone else's dog is the answer. We had a great springer spaniel who lived with us for seventeen years, but he left us maybe five years ago. I loved having him, but today I would not accept the limitations on travel that a dog would impose.
ReplyDeleteSo still no dog, I gather? Jilly from Menton, whom we met recently, runs a dog boarding operation out of her home. Lots and lots! No pets in this house. People are enough to keep us occupied.
ReplyDeleteNice dog, I didn't have one growing up either.
ReplyDeleteYou know...we have a lovely kitty called LUNA ( www.weloveluna.blogspot.com).She is a Brazilian snowshoe cat and she moved from Brazil to Luxembourg with us!Well...she is part of our family! The trip was difficult for her, about 21 hours and several connections of flights, but everything is fine and she is very well adapted in her new life here. She has now a Luxembourg passport! Believe that?!Cool, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteMaybe, you should try!A CAT is also a good friend!
or go on...adopt a dog!The important is to share love! All critters are a blessing!
Hugs and happy weekend,
Léia
I also grew up without pets. I was the eldest of five children and whenever any one of us whined for a dog, a cat, a bird, a fish, my mother would retort that she already had six monkeys to care for... :-D
