When I'm out and about and looking for a treat, I'm not a big hard ice cream fan and all the mom and pop ice cream shops scattered around the city. This one is on 18 Veranda Street. If left to its own devices, my steering wheel would turn my vehicle to the nearest Dairy Queen every time, and I'd have no problem with that. I think my addiction can be traced back to my annual two weeks 'vacation' each summer at my grandparents house in Westbrook. It was one building away from the DQ. Like clockwork each evening at 7 PM, Nana walked me over and got me a Dilly Bar. Back then, I was a loyal supporter of that delicious chocolate covered treat. In my later years, I've become a BIG fan of their Blizzard. This past summer, my Blizzard of choice has been the medium Hawaiian. I sampled others but always seem happy with the combination of vanilla ice cream, bananas, pineapple and, of course, you probably knew this was coming---coconut! Ah... What your favorite summer treat?
My mom used to always make homemade popsicles. So good :D
ReplyDeleteAnother great vignette/recollection, birdman. I love ice cream, too, hard or soft, choc or vanilla or butter pecan, mmmm, mmm.
ReplyDeletep. s. Would love to see pics of your desk (per your comment on my blog.)
Hello! Thank You very much for Your visit! I also love the ice cream...but not often...I eat.
ReplyDeleteBlizzards at Dairy Queen can't be beat. My favorites are snicker bars, butterfingers or anything chocolate and nutty. Love dip cones also. Nowadays I have gotten into frozen yogurt with fruit.
ReplyDeleteFistt time I had B & J's was on a trip to Maine but there is nothing like a soft serve dipped DQ cone.
ReplyDeletei love the heath bar blizzard. yum!
ReplyDeleteOnce again your beautiful prose has jogged some memories. I remember summer nights growing up when dad would load the family in the car for a "ride" around town. We drive for maybe 45 minutes or and hour in different areas of town and along the river and then we'd end the evening at either a DQ or another mom & pop soft serve ice cream place. It was such a treat for us kids.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a place I'd visit. DQ's products are good to eat but nothing like REAL ice cream...yummy. Nothing beats an old-fashioned hot fudge sundae!
ReplyDeletelove the chocolate!!!
ReplyDeleteDairy Queen sounds pretty good, we have a Mr. Whippy franchise here in Perth that sells icecream in their vans along the beach in summer, the ice cream is so 'creamy' and my fav is the cone with the flake stuck through it, wouldn't mind one right now even though it is nearly 10pm here in Perth.
ReplyDeleteHomemade peach ice cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It makes me scream! :)

I'm a DQ fan, too, but at local ice cream stores I love rum raisin if it is available. I'll default to strawberry. On days when I am feeling the pressure of my belt, it is raspberry sherbet.
ReplyDeleteWe also spent time with my grandparents in the summer. One set was in a small town in Texas and there was a Dairy Queen and a Pizza Hut. Some of the highlights of visiting were playing video games at PH and having a dipped cone at DQ. Nice memories!
ReplyDeleteDQ holds a special place in my childhood memories too. My Granny used to take us there every chance she got. She would give us her change purse and tell us we could spend it all on whatever we wanted. I used to love those Dilly Bars too!
ReplyDeleteBlizzards are a big favorite of mine. I like the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've had one since we are trying to eat healthier.
ReplyDeleteCreamsicles!! Or a caramel sundae!
ReplyDeleteDo they have peanut butter?
ReplyDeleteI love Blizzards also ---and the Hawaiian and Tropical are both favorites of mine... Of course, any ice cream shop calls my name!!!! ha
ReplyDeleteBetsy
I still eat one ice cream a day in every season!
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing a cartoon of this man sitting at a table eating a bowl of ice cream and his wife standing over him, scowling, with her hands on her hips.
ReplyDeleteHe says, " A bowl of ice cream everyday helps me stick to my diet."
Only if it were so...
DQ my fav, too. Peanut buster parfaits were my favorite til the doc told me to stay away from salt. (nuts)
So now it's a small twist cone, chocolate dipped.
I love that they currently say that dark chocolate is very good for you.
Now they tell me...better late than never, I suppose.
Birdman -- Love vanilla ice cream in fresh garden picked cantaloupe but I always leave out the ice cream now so I guess its just cantaloupe. -- barbara
ReplyDeletePeanut Butter Cup blizzards were my drug of choice then I met some new drug dealers Ben and Jerry. I have see the light and now I have Skinny Cows or Frozen Yogurt from my favorite local spot.
ReplyDeleteDouble dark Belgian chocolate chip ice cream. The European kind; not the air-pumped American supermarket kind. Sorry. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI Love Ice Cream
