The Wreaths Across America project is very much a part of Maine. "The Arlington Wreath program was started by Morrill Worcester (
Worcester Wreath) in 1992 with the donation and laying of 5000 Christmas wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery. This became an annual journey for Mr. Worcester." I was visiting Calvary Cemetery the other morning and saw quite a few wreaths decorating the stones. Looks like this project has taken off locally, as well as in Washington.
I think it's a beautiful homage and idea!

ReplyDeleteGreat program! I had never heard of it -- thanks for posting. Wonderful commitment by Worcester Wreath.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful image, Birdman.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute!
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard of them doing that at Arlington and went on a Google search and saw the picture of all those wreaths and choked up. Thanks for posting this beautiful picture that made me aware of this program.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful project!
ReplyDeleteThank You for bringing this project to our attention. A lovely tribute.
ReplyDeletePretty cool idea I must say but another part of me thinks that some living people would be in more dire need of the money used for the wreaths. Still, it's a good idea.
ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting story that I hadn't heard about before. I didn't really see the point at first, but I guess the laying the wreaths in Arlington to honor our dead service men and women makes sense. And I guess the same could be said of other ceremonies. People leave flowers at the graves of their loves ones all the time...
ReplyDeleteNice photo, Birdman!
I've never heard of this. In one way it's touching. In another it's chilling to leave this season's "happy holidays" hearings on the tomb of someone long dead in the service on their country.
ReplyDeleteNice program. Lovely wreath and graveyard. Out here in New Mexico the cemeteries are quite different--all decorated with paper flowers and wild colors.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a wonderful idea, very moving.
