I always wonder about gates and fences. Are they there to keep people in or out. This one is found on Cumberland Avenue, just up from Maria's Restaurant. Given the local, I'm thinking it's there to keep the unwanted out. As a matter of fact, there are quite a few iron gates in this area, and they've been around awhile too. I know at the restaurant, you need to be buzzed in to enter the eating establishment. That's not a good sign to me. I think Frost had it right in "Mending Wall" though, "Good fences make good neighbors."
