Upstairs Downstairs

Happy Turkey Day to all!
Hope this morning finds all my 'blog friends' either safe and sound at their appointed destinations with family and friends or waiting at the front door for them to arrive. Family, friends, football, turkey, falling sleep on the couch. It's an almost perfect holiday. Enjoy every minute.

*On another topic, I awoke this morning with a predicament on my hands. I have maxed out my free Google account for photos. Has this happened to others? I'm sure it has.  How do you move on? Buy more space from Google? Alternatives?

  1. you can either buy more space - i think it costs a little over $2/mo. nowadays since they raised prices this past year - or delete older photos/posts to free up space.

hope you have a great thanksgiving, too!

  2. Hey, you've got a problem, Houston! Actually, it's no big deal. Just buy 20g more for $5.00. I rebelled against the idea and then decided that was silly. 20g's is a lot for $5.00. You should also resize your photos to 4x6 or smaller before posting. If you don't you've putting up huge photos which take up tons of space. Actually, I change the html on my pictures even after I crop to 4X6 or 6x4: For a portrait photo, make the height 725px and the width 491px. For a landscape photo, reverse the numbers. You must also change the number at the bottom of the html. Look for s400 and change that to s800.

I think that will work for this template. Otherwise, and much simpler is just right-click on your photo in preview, once you have it up. Select one the sizes, from small to extra-large.

Good luck and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    1. I also used to have the 20g for $5 per year option.
But they have changed it to a monthly fee now. It's $2.49/mo for 25g - that works out to about $30 per year.
If you have the old plan, you can grandfather it in. But new "contracts" will have to use the new pricing.

  3. Happy Thanksgiving!!
I started a Flickr account and then paid for higher capacity account. It's not much and I do love using Flickr.

  4. The 1st time it happened to me, I created a new blog. The 2nd time, I bought more space.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  5. Happy Thanksgiving Day to you, Birdman and family.
It is a warm holiday that I miss from America. But here in Israel we are plenty thankful today, the first day of the ceasefire.

Good luck with your blog decisions. Be careful not to do anything rash.

  6. Happy Thanksgiving!

That just happened to me yesterday (that's why my post was so late). I found that you have two options. Open a new Google account and add it to your "blog contributors/authors" list. The new account will have a brand new storage capacity.
Or you can pay the $2.49 per month and keep posting with your old account.
I tried posting with a different account yesterday, but eventually decided to just suck it up and pay. It was too much hassle for me to switch everything over.

  7. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too. I'm going to celebrate on Sunday, since it's not a holiday here.

Gosh, don't know about Google problem....

  8. Happy Thanksgiving Birdman! I guess my "free posting days" are numbered but haven't yet received the red light. Also good to hear from Isrealite Dina thankful for the ceasefire. Wow.

  9. I bet it won't be long before you are asleep on the couch! We won't eat until 6:30.

My photos automatically go to Picasa Web Albums. Once I reached my max I had to start paying $20 per year. It's worth it, I have taken nearly 400,000 photos. Yikes!

Thank you for all your generous comments.

  10. We're settled in at grandma's house in Kansas now with Mrs. C, plus son and girlfriend in from Chicago. Dinner in the oven. All is well. You look like you are going for an Escher effect today. Vertigo?

Bad news about Google. I've avoided it by uploading my pix to Flickr and just linking blog photos to there. A Flickr Pro account with unlimited storage doesn't cost much.

  11. You just gotta step up and fork over some cash. It's worth it, otherwise we wouldn't hear from you! Gosh, I've been so busy I've forgotten about football. Must remedy that pronto. I hope that you have many blessing and that your holiday is filled with good food, good conversation and much joy!

  12. A happy Thanksgiving to you Birdman. Sounds we are both having a prefect holiday. Thanksgiving has always been my favorite. What's not to like, friends, family, football, and great food, should not be an "F" day.

  13. I hope you had a fun day. Started my day with a 5k Turkey Trot. I haven't had that problem yet so I have no solutions.

  14. Thanks for your Thanksgiving wishes, Birdman.

I just pay for the extra capacity. When you consider the service we get for their blog hosting, it is peanuts. The price of one Starbucks coffee per month.

  15. Mr. Bird, I had that problem two nights ago, and I have not yet paid the ransom. You and I were not grandfathered in and will have to pay about $30/year which is really not exorbitant. However I have some unanswered questions about the future and the permanence of the blogs. Let me know what you do. I have posted from drafts the past two days but will have to decide soon.

Thanksgiving here was spent in 70 degree weather, white sugar sand and blue waters of Dauphin Island, complete with lots of food and kids and fun.

    Bises,

  16. So much pleasure and so many great friends for the price of half a tank of gas per year. I thought about it for 2.49 seconds.

  17. Being the engineer that I am I saw that I was going to run into a problem sooner or later. I bought a flickr pro account and just link from my blog to there for about 98% of my photos. I've been pretty happy with it. I have about 25,000 pics uploaded by now. One advantage is that you can create posts from any computer.

  18. I'm so new here so I have no solutions...but if you're not maxed out on creating your posts, then I hope you will continue!
