Travelog #3

Here we are on New Smyna Beach. Like Daytona Beach, vehicles are allowed to drive up and down the beach. It was my first trip to a beach like this. As you can see, you can get just about anything to make your day more enjoyable as you walk the sand. Yes, there is a tiki bar for any adult beverages one might require. We brought everything with us, except the water and sand, so we had only to relax along with Elenka's cousin, her husband and our niece. Conversation flowed. Probably the best part was that we didn't have to lug all our beach stuff from a parking lot to our chairs. Just park the car, open the trunk and take in the 'sights'.
Word to the wise?
Watch out for cars and four-wheelers and bikes traveling back and forth on the hard sand.
It was a fun afternoon with temperatures creeping towards 90.
Of course, we brought beverages!
And, yes those are my flamingos!

  1. They certainly make it difficult for you to enjoy the sun and sand!!

  2. You park the car in some relatively soft sand. Cross the hard sand 'road' and get to more sand hardened by the flowing tide. Plop down.
Shortly thereafter, the tide comes in resulting in scurrying about scooping up stuff to keep it dry, cross back over the 'road' and plop down behind your own car.
    Takes some getting used to......
It's not a bad thing, just different. Enjoyed it very much.

  5. i think the worst part about trips is lugging gear back and forth!

  6. You made me laugh. As I was looking at your photo I kept wondering what was up with those flamingos.

  7. Growing up near a beach like this, my Dad had a strict rule once we got our driver's license…NO driving on the beach and he meant it. If we violated that rule, we didn't get to drive and he always would inspect the car when we got home. He said sand and salt water caused rust and other problems. Of course, once in awhile we did get away with it!

  9. Quit your kidding about those flamingos. No one takes a flock of flamingos to the beach, but I believe chairs, umbrellas, and beverages.

  10. Somehow a row of cars doesn't fell like "getting away" from everything. I think I'd prefer a row of palm trees.

  11. Sunshine, beverages, and pink flamingos....what else could you possibly need?!!

  12. Pink flamingos certainly do command attention. As long as none of them got away from you and end up sending you pictures of themselves in London, Paris, Berlin...

  13. I'm glad you're enjoying the warmth and beaches and water . . . but I'll take a beach w/out vehicles, please. Picky, picky . . .

  14. And the water is just a tad warmer than Maine's...

  15. Interesting travel posts. You picked a good time of year to visit FL beaches.

  16. I dunno, Birdman. Dodging cars on a beach? Uhh, I think I like having beaches restricted to pedestrians. I would have rented some pink flamingos, too.

  18. The sand would have to be very hard to drive on without 4 wheel drive (but maybe you have it). I'd rather that a beach experience had cars farther away.

Bid you drive all the way down? Long, long way.
