Autumn Spirits

What do they say about the best-laid plans? Saturday I had some plans to beat the showers and paint in the morning then head to Portland later, but I woke to a steady rain. It kind of threw me off. You see, Elenka had about 15 or so of her women friends coming over for an autumn celebration, and I was quite sure I didn't want to confine myself to my upstairs office for 4 hours. So I grabbed my camera, laptop, assorted stuff and headed out. I ended up at the Library and occupied myself with my laptop for a couple of hours. Usually, the front, glassed-room is a quiet spot with just the occasional outburst or rant of someone a bit confused, but that afternoon I had to listen to the constant, yelling and horn honking of the Wall Street protestors across the street at Monument Square. Needless to say, it wasn't the quiet room of books I had imagined I could escape to in the rain. In retrospect, my office confinement would have been a fine choice.

  4. I wonder if you ventured out to "shoot" some protesters? Libraries in any event certainly are sanctuaries, aren't they?

  5. The ladies enjoyed wine at their autumn celebration? Yes, I believe you would have been happier in your own domain.

  6. Yeah, demonstrating in Monument Square in Portland would certainly make a big impression on those Wall Street types.

  10. Oh those stupid protesters... Maybe if they got out and got a job, they could have some wealth also that they earn themselves --rather than begging for others to help them... Geeeesssshhhhh. ha ha

Sorry you couldn't find a nice quiet place to go. If you had have stayed at home, you would have heard some giggling and squealing.. But--that's better than listening to the protesters.

  12. Well, as you suggest, sometimes things don't our as might hope. I feel especially bad for you if this selection of wines was waiting for you up in your office. You could have had your own party. A few bottles of vino and you could have talked to yourself! :-)
