It's Family
Elenka is all about family. She was born in Newark and raised in Parsippany, NJ. She has many cousins and their families still residing in the state. Although her Mom and Dad have moved on to the Sunshine State, her ties are still strong there. It was kind of strange though when she passed the milestone of having lived more years in the Pine Tree state then in her home state. How did she come to find her way to me? She worked the summer, after her college graduation, at a summer camp in New Hampshire and on their days off some of her counselor friends traveled to Naples and the Long Lake area in Maine just to get away. She must have liked it, because she applied and was hired over the phone to teach art in Maine. And the rest, as they say is history. This story will continue at another time, but for now I'm just so amazed and happy that she made the decision to 'head' North. As my Dad said, (Birdman), she's the best thing that ever happened to you!" I can't disagree there.

Happeeee birthday, Elenka! Priceless photo . . .what's with all the aprons??
ReplyDeleteAww, sweet sentiments and sweet photo.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Elenka.
Sounds like you were a mighty lucky fella! Happy Birthday to your sweet bride.
ReplyDeleteRe your comment on Ocala: Are you saying I don't know whether I'm coming or going? :-) You'd be right!
awww. happy birthday to your love!
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks so much, Birdperson!! It was fate, serendipity and kismet that led me to you. I have to believe that, because I had never even visited Maine before I sent in that job application (even before the New Hampshire job).
ReplyDeleteSo anyway, thanks for the birthday greeting, flowers, card and NEW CAMERA!! I love you.
Sharon...about the Aprons...that was my aunt and uncles wedding. I was the only kid there, sucking a lollipop to keep my mouth shut. We all only spoke Slovak and in those days there were 'do it yourself' weddings. They were held in the church hall. The Bride had the good sense to take off her apron just before the photo was taken, I'm sure. Those were the days.
What a beautyful tribute! and happy Bird's Day to Elenka!
ReplyDeleteElenka - thanks so much for the explanation. I love those aprons more than I can say . . .
ReplyDeleteVery happy birthday Elenka, I think Birdman is a very lucky guy and the good thing is ..that he knows it!! I hope you had a lovely day and Birdman do you realize how EXTRA lucky you are... you married a Libra, we're such a great bunch haha!!
ReplyDeleteThis beautiful birthday tribute put a smile on my face! Well done! And, Happy Birthday Elenka!

Best Wishes...!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post, Birdman! It's great to hear two people happy together!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post Birdman. Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and best wishes to Elenka and to both of you. The tender way you always write about her says something about your long relationship. This New Yorker and that Kansas girl met in bar on St. Patrick's Day. Much more prosaic.
ReplyDeleteVery nice post indeed! Sending out birthday wishes!
ReplyDeleteShe is most definitely one of MY favorite people!! I hope that this birthday weekend has been a wonderful one! xxoo
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so glad that I didn't entirely miss this post and all the comments, esp. Elenka's. I am confident that her birthday was terrific. You two obviously were meant for one another. Congratulations to both of you. PS. We should try to find out how all of us met our spouses! Would be interesting...loved Bob's story. I met mine when I was moving into a new apt. He and his room-mate (whom I dated briefly) helped me carry all my boxes into the apt which was right next to theirs. A huge party complex so when I got serious I moved out since I didn't want to be too "available." The rest is history, so they say! February will be #50...who would have believed!!??
