Library Lamp

Light the way!
I've walked by it a few times but never entered until last week. The New York Public Library is an amazing place. We were only there about 20 minutes, but I was able to take peeks in quite a few rooms. To be perfectly honest, now that I reflect back on it, I do believe the reason we entered this stone edifice was so our ladies might partake in their restroom facilities. Regardless, the trip up those stone steps and through the front doors was worth any hassle we might encounter in the city. What a place!  How much do these huge lamps, scattered about the building, weigh anyway? On our quick visits to various room, I saw few books on tables with patrons, but plenty of technology devices were in evidence. I did catch one elderly gentleman using... you better sit down for this, the card catalog. Of all the places we visited, this is one environment I want to return to and suck up some of the atmosphere. I'm a bookie at heart and proud of it!

  1. Actually, we entered just to checkout the interior and happened, fortunately, to pass by a ladies room.....get this.....with NO line!
So we went in whether we needed to or not.

    Happy days, for sure.

(The front lobby was all decorated for Christmas....just beautiful.)

  4. Another historic library that has beautiful artisan materials is the downtown Chicago Library. A must see when in Chicago. Love the lamp fixture. -- barbara

  6. Yes, it also reminds me of the downtown Chicago library, which I used to visit regularly when I lived there as a young, single woman .... many, many years ago, but the atmosphere of a traditional library never leaves you!

  7. When you said you were at Bryant Park I wondered if you had visited the library. I think I had much the same reaction as you the first time I saw it. Such a gorgeous building, I could spend hours in there.

  12. Oooooh, I SO want to go there...Interesting about the devices verses books...Editor of Downeast Publishing claims that paper books & magazines are going to disappear, it will all be electronic...Not in my lifetime...still....I do like visiting the Boston Public Library....

  13. I haven't been in this place in decades but I have the fondest memories of it. When my sister and I were in single-digits age, our parents used to take us there for Saturday morning story hour. Oh how we loved it.

  14. The New York Public Library is indeed a lovely and impressive place. And the lamp is outstanding and well photographed.

I came back from Barnes & Noble tonight with four new books. Yes, I know I am a dinosaur, but I can live with that.

  15. Been catching up with your NY trip Birdman, looks like fun times were had! Your 'Park Ice' shot was a beauty. So comforting to know that the library still has the card catalog system in place and that it's still being used, probably only by technophobes like me haha! Like yourself and many of your readers I also had the tip off from Google that I'd run out of space and because I don't understand flicker or any other options, I opted to pay the extra fee, it's not so bad really..how funny that so many of us got the nod at the same time!!
