Happy Patriots' Day!

Did you know that this holiday is celebrated in only two states: Maine and Massachusetts? Usually, the the weather around here in mid-April is cold and damp with an occasional spotting of snow but not this year. It's a Jersey spring with everything three weeks early, or so it seems. The weather guru says temps will be in the 80's today, green grass all around, forsythias have exploded in yellow, the deck furniture is out and I'll be rototilling this afternoon. Can there be any other signs that this spring is upside down in the Northeast? It's almost time to take a cruise.

  1. Boy! Do you have a great way of capturing color!
Yes, I worry about what this weather is going to do to the people running the Boston Marathon. Could be dangerously hot for them. No cruise for me, but you....go ahead.

  3. I didn't know about Patriot's Day. Very weird weather everywhere. The hottest March in a long time across the lower 48.

Have fun out boating. Or swimming. Or whatever else it is you patriots do on days like this. :-)

  6. It's been goofy and capricious in the Midwest, too. All the flowers in the gardens in Charleston, SC bloomed early so we missed it all.

    Enjoy your lovely weather today!

  7. Can't have too many holidays. It's a weird, weird world when Maine is warmer than Southern California.

  11. I always associate Patriot's day with the Boston marathon and it seems the heat resulted in rather pedestrian times. I am off to see if the RedSox game is on TV here!

  12. I had never heard of Patriot's Day. It is a nice warm day in Ohio with lots of wind. Surely there is a weather front associated with this wind and if so we will get it soon enough.

  16. And not just the northeast, either. I don't think I've heard of Patriot's Day. Strange that it fell on the same day as the Boston Marathon, which was dominated by Kenyans.

  17. By the way,I don't have a way to email you directly about this. It looks pretty likely that I will be going back to camera camp, a/k/a The Maine Media Workshops, this summer. I would be checking in on Sunday afternoon, 7/29. I'm thinking of coming out the day before and spending a night in Portland or thereabouts on the way up. Might you be around?

  19. Great colors, Birdman. I giggled at Bob's comment about the coincidence of the marathon falling on Patriot's Day.
