Life Ending
Renovations could be in the future of this Portland landmark. This is one of two entrances on the Spring Street side to the Cumberland County Civic Center(CCCC). The pending work hopes to breathe new life into this building, with revenues and added features to make this 34 year old building more competitive in attracting bigger acts. Less of Shrine Circuses and more acts like the Boss? The elimination of these steep 'suicide stairs', as they call them, is in the plans. I must agree negotiating these stairs at night in rain or snow can certainly be taking your life in your hands. Please use the handrails!

My first reaction was to the steepness of those steps. Certainly would no invite a quick visit to the Civic Center; probably more like a quick trip to the hospital. Good that renovation and redesign is in the plans.
ReplyDeleteI would certainly take your advice on that set of stairs.
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine people attempting to climb those steps in the snow or freezing rain. Yikes. The CCCC must have good insurance...or few patrons who fall. It'll be interesting to see how they modify the entrance.
ReplyDeletec'est bien de redonnez vie a des anciens ensembles
ReplyDeleteahhh, this is where my tinnitus began...at a sting concert.
ReplyDelete30 years ago , the "too much, too big, too high" style was very fashion. Today, architecture is coming back to more human size. Great idea, I'd say!
ReplyDeleteThere must be an alternate handicapped accessible entrance else this says Off Limits to wheelchairs.
ReplyDeleteProbably made just for walking upstairs ...
ReplyDeleteYikes, by the time I climb those stairs the show would be over -- barbara
ReplyDeleteYou're gonna need an awfully big venue to book the Boss - think of all the people who would come up from Boston. Maybe the stairs could be reused for beginners' ski lessons.
ReplyDeletei like it. very '90s.
