Cooldown

Yesterday was one of those weird summer days around here. Hot sun for 15 minutes. Then clouding over for a spell, and then ol' man sun was back in earnest. I was painting the deck railings, so I was fighting the warm rays all afternoon. Elenka always reminds me not to paint in the hot sun. Haha. Sometimes, I cheat when she's looking the other way though. I was tracking the spotty showers, all over upper New England, moving our way during the afternoon on the Weather Channel, and it didn't look like much. However, when we finally got around to putting a rack of ribs on the grill about 6 PM, Boom! The skies opened up. It hit. No thunder. No lightening. But plenty of cooling rain. It did its thing for about 30 minutes or so and took the temps down quite a bit.
Umbrellas were in style.
For them, not me.
Sitting on the porch with the screen door open, amid a strong afternoon shower, that's a cool down for me.
That, I can take.
That, and the ribs on the grill.

  2. Painting in the heat AND the rain? You need to listed and heed your wife more carefully. Maybe, now that she's retired, she can keep a closer eye on you so you won't get hurt!

    "Get religion"? You're kidding, right?

  4. I love this photo! I love a good rainy day mostly because they are so rare here. Ribs sound good too!

  5. Great shot!

We had rain in the evening, which seems to have cooled things down somewhat today.

  6. We had the same weather yesterday but the rain hit at 3 pm and was gone in an hour - probably headed off to Portland!

  7. I'll return the compliment then, shall I? I'm not invited?

After 10 days of temps in the high 90s and low 100s we finally had a cool day! Happy.

  8. We had a heat wave for a few things, but some rain and storms have cooled things down again. You really forget how nice air conditioning is when you don't have it anymore!

  9. After a very hot and humid day, a cold front and pouring rain arrived by 5pm. Today we are in the high 60s with lots of sun and little humidity. I prefer this. Nice photo!

  10. Rain? Yes, please! Wildfires in this region have made our air a smoky mess.
But how's that porch railing doing? I can't imagine the rain has helped much drying it.

  11. And . . . the important question . . . did the rain wreck the paint job?

  12. Our week has been like that but we're fine with it. It helps with our drought.

  14. The shower can be delightful on a July day if it's in moderation. We've had rain day after day after day. Lots of local flooding.

  15. Unfortunately here in Texas srain doesn't cool anything down. It just causes the steam to form. Steam is good for ribs!

  16. Umbrellas are always in style, rain or shine! I have three in the car so a shower would delight me.
