Can you select a best photo of the year? Is it really possible to answer this question? How about this one? Of all your children, which one is your favorite? How can you possible choose? As a matter of fact, this time of year on TV: news, sports, entertainment, etc. is filled with my bane-- looking back at the year in review. I dislike immensely the year in retrospect, or anything(including music) that is prefaced by the words: "Best of 2010". So when looking back at my photos of 2010, I stopped in March-- the 16th to be exact. I give up! I can't do it! I detest this job I have to do. Oh well, next year, I'll probably just post a new picture. A Resolution for the coming year? I've got to stop complaining in '11.
This March shot, in the rain at Monument Square with the lime umbrella, is a favorite.
By the way--- Happy 1/1/11
It can be difficult sometimes to pick one favourite photo - I usually end up with 3 :) But I see why you've chosen this photo. I like the colours.
ReplyDeleteBtw, please note that when you leave your URL, it should say http://pasttimeamainebackyardandbeyond.blogspot.com because portcitydailyphoto.com doesn't lead anywhere. Just thought I'd let you know :)
Happy New Year!!! May this year bring you everything your heart desires.
Thank you for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comment. I'll see you again tomorrow!
It took hours for me to decide. Next year I think I will have everyone vote. I do love this one that you picked out. Happy Saturday.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo! I agree with your dilemma. I had picked out half a dozen, then gave up and picked one. At Portland Oregon Daily Photo my theme day post—favorite 2010 posted photo—will be up after midnight in Portland. In the meantime, I have a special New Year’s Eve post. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteBirdman!
ReplyDeleteAll you have to do is randomly pick one because yours are all look good... including this one !
For me, I ask my 7 year old daughter to choose what she like from her first impression from my whole year of photos...
Best Regards,
Wong
That's funny -- I had to enlist the help of a friend visiting to help me confirm my pick. What a task! Hope 2011 finds you healthy and facing lots of new photo opps.
ReplyDeleteI put baby brattcat and her best guy across the sea to the task to select my best of 2010. i have to admit I loved going through the posts and remembering when and where the images were taken...particular favorites were images taken when a certain couple from Portland came to visit. By the way...this is an excellent choice, b-man.
ReplyDeleteI love this photo, too, and know the impossible challenge of choosing 'the best.' There is probably also no such thing as 'worst.'
ReplyDeleteVery true...I like how you used the "which child is your favorite" comparison! I actually forgot we had to choose :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
i like the photo you chose and I like the day before as well. I hope things are well. Happy New Year's Day to you! Have a great day with family and friends.
ReplyDeleteI like the composition of this photo with the yellow and lime colors.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with your assessment of choosing a "best of" shot. I hate to play favorites!. This is an excellent choice! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI remember this picture, it is really great!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
I agree 100% with your views of "the best of..."
ReplyDeleteI tried to find a favorite and gave up. Couldn't do it.
This is a cool shot! And have a wonderful 2011!
Ahh -- like you, one of my resolutions for 2011 is to stop complaining also -- although 2010 had a lot of fodder to complain about. I really have enjoyed finding your blog and viewing all your fine photos -- they all are the "best." -- barbara
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way you do about 'Best of' lists. I've thought about my favorite post or picture of the year, but just give up after a while. I do like your photo, however.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a very wonderful 2011.
A lot of pictures to choose from, not an easy task!
ReplyDeleteIt's always enjoyable to see your corner of the world.
Happy New Year!

Birdman, I am well satisfied by your selection of A favorite photo even if it is not THE favorite photo of the year. No one is giving out grades today. You get to go on to 2011, where we can see more of your photos and written thoughts about life (and Portland).
ReplyDeleteThe lime umbrella is just the right touch!
ReplyDeleteAll best wishes to you this New Year!
Nicely done; commentary and photo. I mean really, who has time to look back thru 365 photos?
ReplyDeleteOh, this is a lovely shot, Birdman, but I am listing some of my favorites: Nove 22, Oct 28, Oct 16, Sept 26, Sept 12, Aug 19, Aug 2nd, July 19.... The list goes on and on... You have a great eye, a steady hand and a beautiful way of putting a story to the photos. I've only been to Portland once (in a snowstorm) but if I ever get back, I'm going to track you and the misses down.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful, bountiful New Year!
Genie
It was really hard to make a choice. I also don't like to look back. What's past is past! But I think you've a good choice. What a quiet shot.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
