Shaker Barns

Set against a gray slate sky, these two shaker barns are at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village near New Gloucester, Maine. On our trip back from Norway Lake last weekend , we stopped by for a quick walk. Whatever the season, the Village is always a welcome place for a camera. Situated at the top of a rise, it's such an idyllic and restful lay of land.

    Everything is so pretty, and the snow compliments the red so nicely! I wish I could live at a place like that!! It's so beautiful!!!

    Just fabulous! So glad that they did not spare the bright red paint... so many barns are "red" but not screaming red as are these... just perfect against the winter landscape

    Those barns are so vibrant against the gray back drop and the snow. I am a big fan of symmetry.

    Beautiful photo, Birdman. Before your viewers get all gooey about the Shakers, maybe you need to tell everyone that a principal tenet of the faith was celibacy.
