Ft. Allen Park#2

Here's a visual oxymoron if ever there was one-- Chandler's Band concerts in the bandstand and cannons. Both of these look off endlessly towards Casco Bay and the hustle and bustle of Portland's working waterfront. There are days when I park alone with a coffee or lunch and peer out over the 'big pond'. I enjoy the solitude and just for a few idle moments dream about me in another life, another time. I've always enjoyed watching the tugs pushing around the big tankers. I admire them. Little guys doing an overwhelming job, reaching far beyond their potential. It's a soothing spot; it's a dreaming spot. It's a fine spot for me, regardless of the season. I'm at home here... always have been, always will be.

Today, Elenka and I are celebrating 36 years of wedded bliss. Where did that time go? Lovya!

  1. The time 'went' because we were having so much fun! You're the best thing that ever happened to me. Love ya LOTS and miss you. Wish you were here.....(it's a dirty job, but someone has to be here in Florida this week.) :-) ;-)

  5. Congratulations! The time does go by fast, doesn't it? Is the canon there for celebrating? Then after that some music?

It is nice to have a a place to go and watch and wonder about things or whatnot. I like watching the tug boats too. MB

  7. Looks like a great place for goofing off (I mean for solitary thinking). Nice image.

36 years? Maybe the bag over your head helps. Or Elenka's escapes to Florida.

Calm down about the Sox. Yesterday I reminded a friend in Ohio who is drooling about the Cleveland Indians (the Cleveland Indians!!!) that it is mid-April. Our Red Sox will recover.

  9. Hopefully your were reflecting on your many years together with your wife. Not too many folks can claim such an accomplishment.

Perhaps you could also contemplate your confusion about my Ocala photo. I hope it doesn't keep you up at night! ;-) I dunno what it is, but I'd guess probably an old outbuilding (it has an old outhouse and shed) on a horse farm that was no longer needed and let go. The property, however, is for sale and it's on what is rapidly becoming a major road so at some point will be quite valuable.

By the way, if you decide to meditate sitting on that canon, be careful you don't drift off...wouldn't want to hear you lost your head over a canon!

(Psst...we'll be celebrating 54 years together in June. Don't tell anybody! Jack still things I'm 35!)

  13. Congrats on the many years! I think the cannon needs to fire off a few rounds in celebration.

  15. That is the perfect place for the '1812 Ouverture' by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, which includes a volley of cannon fire!
    My congratulations for your anniversary!

  16. Happy anniversary!!

The juxtaposition of the gazebo and the canons is rather strange. But visually interesting at least!
