Java#3
Ah... in quiet coffee shops, sitting alone listening to the comings and goings of people sitting around me. You just never know what you'll find. This morning at the Bard there seemed to be a bit of everything. A fellow to my left stretched out with a laptop at the ready and about half way through London's Sea Wolf, and a young coed in red moccasins curled up on a comfy chair with journal, iphone, laptop at her side and reading Theosophy a book by Rudolf Steiner. Behind me, a tentative business transaction seemed to be in the planning stages. It's my new favorite place. Delicious brew, comfortable over-stuffed couches and quiet enough to plan my day, week or upcoming project. I need a refuge like this to grab a hold of, relax and be the old, anonymous me. How about you?

Sounds like the kind of place I like! And the perfect spot to lounge on a rainy day.
ReplyDeleteSounds delightful, especially the over stuffed couches. But...is the coffee good???
ReplyDeleteThis is my husband's kind of place, for sure. Me, I like to be quiet and anonymous at . . .home.
ReplyDeleteI never acquired a taste for coffee so these places tend to be a bit foreign to me. Occasionally, I'll join a friend and have an iced tea instead.
ReplyDeleteLately cafes have been the only place I can actually concentrate. I write letters and study before going home ;D
ReplyDeleteMany of the coffee shops in my area of Toronto have become 'living rooms' for many people who hang out there all day working away on laptops or reading books. As a non-coffee drinker I sometimes feel like I am missing out on something!
ReplyDeleteWow its cool! Love coffee and sometimes tea and I often do that, the usual with laptop and cellphone:).
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
Sounds good to me! I like watching people anonymously. :)
ReplyDeleteI drink way too much coffee, but it's usually at home or on the go. Four little ones would make quite the disturbance at a quiet little coffee shop!
ReplyDeleteI also like those kinds of moments; But for a question of time, I can live them only during holidays, which makes them even more precious..
ReplyDeleteI like and always pursue anonymity, it is part of a quiet and relaxed life and gives plenty of opportunities to get nice pictures unnoticed.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I really like your picture!
ReplyDeleteBirdman -- Coffee shops are necessary. They give you a place to stop, look, and listen for however long. No chasing you out if you linger too long. They are the by-product of the old general store idea where one could gather round the pot-belly stove and enjoy the warmth of friendship, talk shop, play checkers or chess, read or just make observations. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteThis place sounds very much like our Panera Bread restaurants (coffee/bakery/deli shops) ... We stop at one of them at least once a week. Always fun and relaxing.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I took your advice about always looking up and ran into a light pole. Thanks a lot! ;-)
I like places like this. I've still yet to find mine around town. Great shot too.
ReplyDeleteNice shot, Birdman. We think alike here. I like coffee shops that are big enough to accommodate many folks working or socializing or reading or . . . heavens! . . . drinking coffee. I drink lots of coffee and, like you, I like my anonymity. I also like networking in places like this, but now that I am retired, I ask myself what objective do I have in networking? None. Just habit.
ReplyDeleteI wish this were 3,000 miles closer.
ReplyDeleteEveryone should have a favorite coffee shop. It's tough to choose, over here in the northwest where there's practically one on every block. For me, it's the Black Drop. Or Lettered Streets Coffeehouse. Or Moka Joe... dang! I guess I don't have a favorite after all!
ReplyDeleteI love the feel of a coffee shop. Generally they are fairly quiet, with people reading or pecking away at a laptop. But my favorite place is propped up in bed with the laptop in my lap, coffee on the bedside table, and my dog Smokey curled up at my side. I enjoy his company.
