Rant Time

I hate these suckers with a passion. Ok, hate is a very strong word. Let's try this. I REALLY hate them! These two bottom feeders were found early one morning last week waiting to be fed their daily feast of shiny quarters. Why, oh why, oh why can't we just all get along? After dropping a buck an hour into these babies, your car has to be moved. I guess the theory here is that you should be able to complete all your shopping within a two hour period. Dreamers! The way I'm looking at it, not the best way to complete our city's 'urban renewal' project born in the 60's. I say pull 'em all out, close Congress Street to auto traffic and turn the area into an open air mall and bring the natives and tourists flocking to Downtown, with no fear of pink 'love letters' on windshields or worse, a missing, towed vehicle. There, I'm done. Let's move on! Maybe tomorrow I'll start my campaign to rid the cable airways of garbage shows like Nancy Grace, JVM and H. Rivera. Hahahaha!

  1. jusqu’à l'année dernière, c’était gratuit à Évry, mais maintenant il y a des horodateurs partout, mais les tiens sont de véritables antiquités digne d'aller dans un musée

New York shut a street down to foot traffic only, why can't you.

  3. I can understand your feeling on meters and parking, I hate paying with a passion and will walk some distance rather than pay. However there was a great story in our UK press and online recently about Aberystwyth: The town without traffic wardens, it led to parking chaos and apparently fights over parking! 5. Sounds cheap compared to the Toronto rates. :)

  6. They, or what is used for them here in some areas of Portland, are another reason I am glad that I do not own a car.

  7. Birdman -- oh -- I have a small town near me that does not have one parking meter -- how refreshing for all that visit this place.

  8. If I had a drivers license (or a car for that matter), I would probably be right behind you!

  9. Don't even get me started!! Because I live a block away from a college, I had to have a special permit to park on the street in front of my house! Neighbors told me that because of the college, students were constantly parking in front of houses and walking to the campus so the neighborhood had parking restricted and now everyone who lives there has to purchase an annual parking pass so they can park in front of their own house.

  12. I hate them too but a buck an hour seems cheap - I fed one $2.50 for an hour this morning here!

  13. Good luck on both tasks. I don't want you to fail, but you are really swimming upstream.

  14. Where do I sign up to join the campaign? I don't hate parking meters anymore......the handicapped parking placard on my rear view mirror allows to me to park free. I still have the urge to "miss the brake and hit the gas" each time I pull up to one.

  15. I was in South Norwalk for dinner last week, and parked by a meter that required payment until 9 p.m. I parked at 6:50 and fed it $2 in quarters. It would only take two hours worth, so it was going to expire at 8:50, ten minutes before the limit. When I got back, I had a $25 ticket. Timestamped 8:54. They came past six minutes before the deadline and mine had expired only four minutes earlier.

  16. I wish you good luck, but your first proposal is possible with civic action. Double good luck on the second. The Boob Tube is only about what sells and, as my beloved H. L. Mencken said, no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. Minor bit of fame: Rivera went to the same high school, although not at the same time.

  17. Try two bucks an hour and a $52 ticket for an expired meter. Oakland is trying to balance the budget on parking charges. Coin fed meters are so quaint. Ours are being replaced by centralized parking machines that take credit cards for your convenience. You have to walk back to your car to place the parking slip on the dash. Woe unto you if the time limit is surpassed. Public outrage beat back a city decision to extend the meter hours to 8 pm.

  18. Ugh...I'm tired of hearing about parking meters. And, that's all I have to say about that.

  19. Let us hear how you really feel. ha ha ha... I haven't been anywhere in a long time where there are still parking meters like that.... I'm amazed!!!!! It's no wonder you are upset.... GADS!!!!
