Safari Maze

Some days I really do feel that I'm caught in a labyrinth of sorts, and I don't like that feeling. The daily grind can catch up with you unannounced and drag you down. It's like a dream gone bad; like waking up from a nap and not knowing what day or time it is. It's that feeling I have sometimes of waking in total darkness, in a room I'm not used to sleeping in and being totally confused between reality and some 'never neverland'. I'm thankful because these feelings pass quickly, and I'm back in a familiar place. Most mazes are a bit creepy to me after seeing that final scene in The Shining. This one was not. It's the side of a giraffe seen out a window on a safari tour. There, back to reality!

  1. ... And I believe it's a Reticulated Giraffe, my favourite subspecies from southern Somalia and northern Kenya. Cool shot, Birdman!

  4. So where did you go on safari? And this post is what I call a tall tale. I hope you didn't get spit on. Giraffe's like to spit. Don't ask me how I know.

  5. Like speckled sunlight. I suppose that's the intention. Isn't nature wonderful?

  6. What a nice tribute to a beautiful creature, but safari in Maine?

(The Shining -- creepiest movie ever.)

  7. Beautiful, warm maze. I know the feeling - yoga and painting help me to calm the demons.

  8. Birdman -- Glad you quickly come back to your reality. I have never felt the "maze" feeling before but when I was a child I always had dreams of someone chasing me. I looked up what that meant one time and I've since forgotten the meaning? Oh well. -- barbara

  11. Once when I was in high school, I went with the debate team from NYC to a tournament in Boston. After sleeping on the bus for some time, I awoke and looked out the window into the misty night. A life-sized brontosaurus was gliding by. Talk about freaked me out. Then I realized that it was a Sinclair gasoline dinosaur, on its way to another exhibit. A real Twilight Zone experience.

  12. I am so confused, Birdman. Yesterday you straightened me out about who is traveling and who is home, and now I see a most un-Mainelike giraffe. Maybe I will just wait to see what I learn in the next post.

  13. i think you're suffering from E withdrawal. our partners can be our anchors during those times of disorientation. when they're at our side everything is just so much clearer.
