Drainpipe

It's humming time again! On Commercial Street, I came across this neat drainpipe. I thought it was so artistic and a bit delicate in design, if you ask me. 'The Itsy, Bitsy Spider" was a favorite of mine in those younger years.
The itsy bitsy spider crawled up the water spout.
Down came the rain, and washed the spider out.
Up came the sun, and dried up all the rain,
and the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.
Mom taught us all the words and the accompanied hand movements, as we sat around the kitchen table. I know many can't handle spiders at all, either in the bathtub or running along the floor. And, of course, around this house, I'm the unofficial spider killer. Although I must add at this point, I perform this service mostly to stop the screaming. I've always enjoyed the antics of these members of the arachnid family. Probably, it all stems from waking up after sleeping out with the gang in our tents to Daddy Long Legs walking over my face. Ah... another pleasant thought. Are you humming this song yet?

  1. Now that has got to be the most interesting drainpipe ever Birdman, like the ornate crossover holding it in place, nice touch for a drainpipe haha. and the actual pipe looks a little like the end of an elephants trunk. Not sure if I'm missing something but I can't see a 'glass countertop' anywhere in sight hahaha!!!

  3. you might have spared a victim of the screaming and planted it on this elegant drainpipe for the shot, but it's pretty darn good even without ol' itsy bitsy.

  4. The alleys your mind travels--fascinating--from drainpipe to spiders --and again, I'm w/Elenka on the spiders.

  5. Birdman, you can find a song in most anything, I suppose. I am sitting on Newbury Street in Boston this morning and am looking at a beverage dispenser with a Margaritaville logo . . . I'll bet you have a story for that one, too!

  6. The mounting straps are great. Now we'll be humming itsy bitsy spider all day. Oh well, we have a three day weekend to work it all out.

  7. Love that strap across the drainpipe. I cried and cried when Charlotte the spider died in "Charlotte's Web" and still can't kill a spider - always take them outside!

  8. There is beauty in the old style guttering and pipework. Unlike the modern plastic rubbish which a spider would probably not be able to get a grip on. I like spiders, apart from those Australian ones that hide in the toilet bowl and jump out and bite you on the...
