Hot Morning

I'm just saying... As I begin writing today on the deck, it's 5 AM and the thermometer is registering a warm 81 degrees. After a night inside, our two cats always make a break for it when the back screen door is opened. Not today. they both stay nestled on the 'cool' decking rather then venture off into the heated wild. Not too much is moving. It feels like it's gonna be a hot, humid Jersey summer day here in Maine. My ol' buddy the local meteorologist says the temps are going to top off between 93-95 this afternoon. Hey, I'm not complaining! We don't have 'air', but most summer days we just open the windows and doors and let the summer breeze do its job. I know that the next few days will bring on the heat and then a typical Maine summer will return with its sunny, upper 70s and low 80 degree days. Hey, I'm not complaining! Why? Because I know, that in just six short months, the woodstove will be chugging, they'll be 10 inches of white stuff drifted up against the back door and the temperatures will be hugging the 20s and teens. Yes, I'm going to enjoy these next few hot summer days. Hey, I'm just saying...

  2. It isn't the heat so much as the humidity. I saw where Fargo had a dew point of 70, that's pretty wet for that area.

Been steamy here to, I put up a picture of one of my windows that looked like you see when your car is parked out overnight. They call that being able to wringe the water out of the air.

Keep cool, and enjoy the warmth, two months and the nights and days will be totally different.

  3. What can we say. When we have over 100 degrees for over a week here.
    Have a beautiful cool day.

  4. Looks like you've got a handle on it Birdman, we don't do air conditioning either, I don't like it, ceiling fans and greenery around the outside does the trick very nicely most of the time! Have a great weekend.

  5. We have air, but it has been quite a struggle for the past few days to keep the old farmhouse cool. Temps of 98 for us today. We are skipping the water park today in favor of the cool movie theater.

  8. I'm totally with you on this. Surrender to summer. I don't want to live my life sealed up in a room with a temperature that never varies, breathing recycled air. When it's summer, I want to know it.

  9. Wish England knew it was summer, I've just put my central heating on - it's extremely chilly here!!

  11. I like your attitude...sorta like making lemonade when life hands you a lemon. Of course, you could come to Florida where it's cool - only 91 in Ocala today!

Re your comment on Ocala: I always thought the best part of a stripper was when she stopped teasing! :-)

I'm back. More or less. Mostly. I think.

    Check in tomorrow.

  12. It hit 100˚F here in Toronto yesterday! Somehow it is hard to remember these days when it is 0˚F in January.

Birdman I like your writing style. Hey! I like your style.

  15. You are probably one of the few people who are not complaining about the heat...which has been pretty murderous!

  16. I read that it got up to 104 in NYC today and that the heat is all up and down the northeast. 80+ at dawn is bad. Stay still or go to an air conditioned coffee shop.

  17. Basically, I said the same thing to myself today. Melting in this heat is not necessarily better than freezing one's a.. off, but it's different. Stay cool, Birdman!

  18. Wish we had a typical summer. When it's hot and sticky, attitude is everything. You definitely know how to take the long perspective.

  19. 103 here in Hartford today. A new record. We put air in here a dozen years ago and it is very comfortable inside. I did a little (very little) yard work early and late, and the energy just got sucked out of me. Another just like it is forecast for tomorrow before it breaks back to the cool high 80s.

  20. We feel your pain; it was 103 here today and steamy. But, that is summer in Virginia. Thank God for air conditioning.
