River Ice

Here I am driving across the Fore River yesterday mid-morning. The combination of ice flats and flowing water quite caught my eye so I just had to pull over into the breakdown lane and snap a few shots off. I had to be fast, because as you can see, yes it was snowing a bit. Not a lot, but it created some slippery intersections and some overall greasy driving. Off in the distance, you can make out the Western Prom, on the left, rising over the river, and the Fore River bridge heading off towards South Portland. The snow sort of adds a vintage look to the scene, I think.
The coldest weather of the season headed here this weekend.
Do you suffer triskadekaphobia?
Any phobias?
I just fear another blizzard this weekend.

  1. No triskadekaphobia here! However, certain heights do send a chill through me.

  2. That is my kind of weather!

The temperatures have taken a deep drop overnight again, and it wasn't exactly mild yesterday.

  3. Nothing like what you're experiencing, of course, but we're expecting colder than average temperatures over this weekend, too.

  6. Triskaidekaphobia is not my thing: I was born on March 13, a long time ago!

  7. Acrophobia here. The only numbers I fear are those in higher math, the deep, incomprehensible ones that represent a world of thought well beyond my grasp.
This is a great shot but that's as far as it goes. I can only offer sympathy for all it represents. Ugh!

  8. I feel for you. Much of our snow is melting away I'm happy to report, although it did snow for half an hour earlier today.

  9. Very cool photo. We are supposed to get ice Sunday. The whole city is in a panic.

  10. Me! Phobias? Too many to mention :) I see how your phobia came about Birdman, you must be so over winter snow, I guess it must feel like it's never going to stop. Keep cosy this weekend.

  11. I'm a bit arachnophobic. Good thing with 70+ inches of snow on the ground, I haven't seen many 8-legged creatures around . . . not even hanging out in the cold basement.

  12. The water and ice look a bit like the Mississippi. Happy Valentine's Day to you, too. After tomorrow come visit me for the next two weeks at my Mazatlán blog:

  13. Birdman, that is just the personification of cold, miserable conditions. You are retired now, so you can travel to warmer climates, even if it only for a week or two. It makes the winter much more tolerable.

  14. NO, I don't have a triskadekaphobia problem. Good thing since Friday the 13th happens more than once a year. ;)

I think the snow does add a vintage look! I'd never realized that before. Happy Valentine's Day.
