Think Jeopardy today-
I'd have to go with, What are the the waters of Casco Bay, Alex?
Today, February 1, 2015 is Theme Day across the CDPB (citydailyphotoblog) community, and the theme this month is: If you had to leave forever the city from which you usually post, what would you miss most?" Believe me. That was easy! When I first saw the theme posted about mid-month, it took me about 2 seconds to decide what I had to do. You see. To paraphrase a bit of Willie the playwright, "The WATER's the thing." I've lived here all my life, except for parts of 4 years, and it has a pull. Can't explain it, but it's there.
I'd miss the views
Casco Bay.
The Fore River.
The islands floating on it.
It's everywhere around us here.
Water.
the boulder and the bobbing boats provide a great photo!

Yep. And we're mostly water ourselves. That may help explain it.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to see a lot of water today!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I'd probably miss the water. Although in my case, it's a little smaller water than Casco Bay. :-) It would be the C&O Canal.
ReplyDeleteI actually just don't think I could live anywhere too far from the ocean... I couldn't even bring myself to move to the inner suburbs of Perth because it was too far away...
ReplyDeleteSame here, i can't live without the sea
ReplyDeleteIt is part of your DNA, and I totally understand the deep, primal love of rivers, lakes and seas! Keep on enjoying!!
ReplyDeleteOnce you live on the water.... it changes you. May you never have to give up your port city view! Happy Theme Day!

I totally agree Birdman, once you've lived by water that's it!
ReplyDeleteYea, I think the water would be hard to leave. I'd miss the Arkansas River here in Tulsa. Both the views and the trails and parks along both sides.
ReplyDeletethat's gorgeous. i can see why you love it.
ReplyDeleteI grew up on a lake and felt marooned when I moved to Brockport for my first job. During the summer I would go to Lake Ontario or a friend's pool everyday. Got very nostalgic when we went sailing. Could not believe what I was missing.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting how some agonize over their choice this theme day and others have a quick easy choice. You are right, water has a pull .. when away from water one always wants to return. Happy Theme Day.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about water when I came to your post today. We are all drawn to water, and most Americans live only a few miles from a major body of water. Perhaps it is because we are mostly made up of water, and our salt content is exactly the same as the sea.
ReplyDeleteLove your choice for the theme day. Well done!
ReplyDeleteNice shot Birdman. I had a guess that would pick the ocean.
ReplyDeleteCompletely understandable. The water is powerful draw.
ReplyDeleteI agree - the water is a great draw in all seasons!
ReplyDeleteWater is enticing and embracing and rewarding. I think it's nice that you feel the way you do about water considering that most of it is probably frozen solid up there this time of year. :)
ReplyDeleteA terrific choice!
ReplyDeleteYou picked a beautiful view to make your point.
ReplyDeleteHow did you make that boulder look like a giant sea creature??? I do miss that Casco Bay...and when I lived there, I missed Penobscot Bay...(I also miss the season in which you took that photo, given yet another snow is on the way, or so THEY say!)
ReplyDeleteI understand that completely, Birdman. I grew up one town away from the Atlantic and went to school on a bay and then next to the Charles River before starting my career with a view of Boston Harbor. I was always in sight of water. The, inland to Hartford? Wow, THAT was an adjustment. You are lucky to live your life on the water.
ReplyDeleteGood choice. Portland owes its existence to the ocean and harbor. What build up behind that ain't bad.
ReplyDeleteThis was a tough theme day challenge. I think your choice is excellent. I'd love to live near water and I can understand why you'd miss it!
